The Pages
Technical Info

As you could have already expected, only Amiga software and hardware was used:
Software:
GoldEd V4.8 The best text editor around. All html pages (except the automatically created files) were built using this fine program with html syntax highlighting.
DPaint V4.0 Old and not up-to-date, but still one of the best painting programs. Used to create or alter most bitmap orientated graphics.
ADPro V2.3.0 A must-have for every Amiga user. Used for remapping, recolouring, quantizations, cropping and lots of other operations and effects.
NetPBM package Very handy for high-quality scaling and jpeg encoding and decoding. The ppm format has been heavily utilised for quick&dirty image processing with my AMOS programs.
PNG-Box I really dislike this program, but it is currently the only one available for saving PiNG graphics.
Cinema 4D V4.0 Very nice raytracer. Shame on Maxon for dropping it!
Miami Deluxe V1.0c The best TCP/IP Stack around. Keep up the good work and register!
IBrowse V2.2 Simply the best Amiga browser! Displays all pages correctly.
Voyager V3.2 Used as reference but has problems with some layout code and PNG images.
ShapeShifter V3.10 Just for testing the pages on Netscape.
UAE-Amiga V0.7.0 For running the old intros and doing snapshots.
CyberGrab V1.2 Nice program for taking screenshots.
AmFTP V1.91 Uploading the homepage was easy with AmFTP. The whole updating process is even done using an AMOS programm communicating with AmFTP via Arexx and launching up newer files only.
AmIRC V2.2 Thanks to the guys and girls on IRC for (beta) testing and help!
AMOS Pro V2.0 A programming language buggy as hell and slow, but anyway I love it. Lots of own programs have been written to speed up some very boring html coding and image processing (navigation frame code and graphics and also the site map).
DeliTracker V2.32 Without some great Amiga Modules, designing and writing would have been much harder.
Amiga Shell (KingCon) Came handy quite often. Some things just can be done much quicker using the Shell (and scripts).

Problems with the pictures?

Do you have broken images everywhere or some pictures didn't show up with transparency, you're probably using old versions of Netscape or the Internet Exploiter.

I'm using the PNG file format for most images on this site. This has got several reasons but the most important ones are:

  • PNG files are considerably smaller (30-50%).
  • The packing algorithms used in PNG files are not patented (unlike the LZW compression scheme used with GIF).

Most Amiga browsers support PNG internally or via DataTypes. Starting with V4.x, both Mozilla and MIES have got limited support of PNG aswell (transparency isn't shown correcty).

Visit the PNG homepage to find out more about this new standard for web graphics.

This site has been tested with the following web browsers:
IBrowse V1.2 IBrowse gave the best results which is not too surprising for it was developed on it.
The perfect screen mode probably is 1024*768 on a 16 Bit CyberGraphics screen.
I just tested it on a 256 colours screen and noticed a lot of image decoding errors on the PNG graphics when using the internal decoder (the datatypes however, don't seem to support scaling, which is even worse).
Voyager V2.95 Voyager did well, but didn't show the transparency of 256 coloured PNGs correctly (only on 16bit screens).
Also, when reloading a page, the frame dimensions seem to increase each time for no obvious reason, creating strange gaps (also between some images).
AWeb Not tested yet. I appreciate any reports on experience with AWeb.
Netscape V4.05 After lots of Netscrap specific fixes it now shows up more or less correctly. The worst bit about it however is the complete ignorance of transparent colours in PNG images.
Internet Exploder Transparent PNGs corrupt some colours of transparent areas. I didn't test it with MIES fully. Some colours of JPegs don't seem to be 100% correct.
Opera Said to work.
Lynx/W3M Not tested yet, but all images have got descriptive ALT-texts, so you should get along pretty well (except for the extensive use of tables).
