"Dad, how come old photographs are always black and white?
Didn't they have color film back then?" "Sure they did. In fact, those old photographs are in color. It's just the world was black and white then." "Really?" "Yep. The world didn't turn color until sometime in the 1930's, and it was pretty grainy color for a while, too." "That's really weird." "Well, truth is stranger than fiction." "But then why are old paintings in color?! If the world was black and white, wouldn't artists have painted it that way?" "Not necessarily. A lot of great artists were insane." "But... but how could they have painted in color anyway? Wouldn't their paints have been shades of gray back then?" "Of course, but they turned colors like everything else did in the 30's." "So why didn't old black and white photos turn color too?" "Because they were color pictures of black and white, remember?" (Calvin and Hobbes) | ||

I never claimed to be a graphics artist. Anyway, I tried to do some pixeled
graphics aswell, but it is far away from looking professional or even just
'good'. Note that a lot of the artwork shown here is pretty old. I just
uploaded them for you to laugh at :) However, I'm pretty good at image processing and manipulation and at getting the best out of the features of DPaint and other painting packages. But now let's start with some images. Click on the humbnail to get a full screen shot. |

Oh this is pretty old aswell and must have been created sometime between 1989 and 1990. I had just drawn this one for fun. |
| The bad usage of the outline function can be examined in this title picture I've drawn for my AmigaBasic Gamedisk 1 (please don't confuse this with the 'real' Gamedisk#1'). Luckily, this Gamedisk never got released. However, you can download it as .adf-file and run it on UAE. |

Yuck! This fine picture was drawn by my brother and me (hmmm I've drawn the 'SnakeSoft' logo, the planes, the explosion and the ships) for a very stupid S.E.U.C.K game we made long time ago (late 1990 I reckon). You can download the .adf of the game if you want to. As you can see, my drawing techniques are getting a bit better now... |
| This is the title picture for the game CrackOut (1991). As far as I can remember, this image was drawn in hardly any time. |
To the left you can see the logo for HyperX, a Katakis/R-Type like game, which was started in 1991 and given up pretty soon after. Hence to the right are the only level graphics ever made for this game. |
| In 1992 I wrote a Tetris-clone called Amotrix. Here's the title picture of that game. It featured a two player mode aswell as different block sets and a drop of water which filled holes. |
Amotrix was released on the (AMOS) Gamedisk #1 in 1992. It contained a nice selection/intro screen which looked like this. Note that this screenshot was made using UAE on Amiga. |
| As sequel to the first Gamedisk, Gamedisk#3 came out only one year later, containing CrackOut and FTC. Again, an intro had been written. You might notice some similarities to the 'Turrican' title screen. I had to take this screenshot with UAE too. |

These are the ingame graphics of the game Tubes which have not changed through all versions since I first done them one afternoon. I like those tube gfx quite a lot, that's the reason why you can find it in the navigation bar. |
| Finally, here's a bootlogo I made for my Super72 bootupscreen. It has been painted using DPaint in HAM8 mode in 1995. Today, I could improve it a lot. |
In October 1998, I restarted painting. At first, it looked very promising, but then the studies started and I was never able to complete this picture you can see to the left (done during about three days using DPaint). |
During the summer holidays in 2000, I bought a graphic tablet, but there
was no Amiga driver available for it. Finally in late november I had time
to write the driver now known as FormAldiHyd.
When I thought about an additional birthday present for my girl friend Heike, I came up with the idea of doing a calendar with nice poems for each month. The results can be seen here. All images were done with TVPaint in 'panorama mode' and my graphic tablet. I think a few of them are pretty nice, others are very simplistic (due to lack of time). |
Here are a few pictures I drew in 2003, again with TVPaint and my graphic tablet on the Amiga. Especially the bear and tiger one is pretty nice. And no, this is no furry fandom x-rated picture -- they're only cuddling! |
There are some more graphics, especially block/tile graphics for platform
games, which have not been included here. They might be added later. Or
not. Nevertheless, please have a look at the Raytraced Graphics aswell, they might be a bit more stunning than these are. |
